100 Disciplines Available for Pre-Order now

In the summer of 2015 I participated (along with about 20 other musicians) in a performance at the Brooklyn Museum as part of the Red Bull Music Academy's summer program. John Colpitts (aka Kid Millions) put together a piece utilizing drums, gongs, tympani, organ, vocals etc called 100 Disciplines. The recording of the performance (including myself on Tympani) as well as members of Yo La Tengo, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tigue, etc is available in a limited run of 100 Cassettes through Thrill Jockey records.

Little Sister

Back in February, I got a text message that I was needed in the studio in 3 hours, and to bring my double kick pedal for tracking for a movie soundtrack. I assumed I would be playing to a "song".  To my surprise it turns out, no, it was just solos that serve as a major theme/storyline in the movie Little Sister by director Zach Clark (who I also will recommend his movie White Reindeer).  The film premiered several weeks later at SXSW and has been making the rounds since in the festival circuit. I finally got a chance to see the film here in NY at the BAM film fest, and was shocked to not only see how much the drumming really WAS prominent. But also really excited because I really really enjoyed the film. The closest I will probably ever get to working with Ally Sheedy.  (!!!)

Keep up to date with the film's progress here

New Zao 7 inch

While working on the new Zao album we decided to release one of the songs (along with a b-side not intended for the album) as a limited edition pressing to help fund the remaining recording sessions. I came up with a limited edition design concept that was realized by artist Tod Hough and the wonderful people at Stumptown Printers in Portland.  I hand assembled/numbered each of the 600 copies and the initial pre-order of 400 sold out in 24 hours. Tomorrow (September 22nd, 2015) we will unleash the rest of the copies at the Zao Bandcamp Site.

Article in Drum Magazine (December 2014 issue)

The kind folks at Drum Magazine have included an article on my drum tracking for the new Zao record in the December 2014 issue. It's currently out to subscribers and should be on shelves any day now. Pick it up. And feel free to email the magazine know that you appreciate them covering me. It helps the writer of the column and helps get future coverage for this guy right here.

Two upcoming performances

Two very different performances coming up, first on Tuesday October 7th I will be returning to the stage on percussion duties with Leverage Models at Glasslands in Brooklyn for a show with Prince Rama and Puro Instinct. This is our first performance after a summerlong hiatus which saw me recording a lot of percussion for several new singles and the next album.  Excited to get back on stage with them.

After that on Sunday October 12th I will be playing drums with the Pookestra at Shapeshifter Lab in the Park Slope/Gowanus area of Brooklyn. The Pookestra is a rather large ensemble of amazing players led by Carolin Pook and every show is different, but always weird and always a good time. This show is titled The Killer Is In The House and sees the Pookestra backing up singer Sarah Renfro. Always a great mix of detailed compositon, improvisation and lots of chance.

New album out now. IKILLYA - Vae Victus

Out now on Megaforce Records. Vae Victus by Ikillya. I had previous filled in on the previous Ikillya record Recon... and last year they asked me to head to Staten Island and track their new album Vae Victus. Not only do I share a rehearsal space with these guys, but I consider them friends. So it's always good to help out when I can. You can purchase the album on iTunes or Amazon or any place you typically buy music.

You can also stream the entire album at Loudwire.

Leverage Models covers Kate Bush

Recently released is a compilation of Kate Bush covers organized by the Bush League. The track was actually a "jam" in the studio for a potential Leverage Models song that ended up being the backing for Alena Spangler of Tiny Hazard to just absolutely KILL IT on.   The compilation is a benefit for Reproductive Rights.
